The Shoulder

On the PIE yesterday, we saw an ambulance driving along the shoulder rushing to an accident scene. I was explaining the use of the shoulder to K.

10 mins later.

K: Mummy, can you please show me where the elbow is again?

Love from a child's point of view

I was told this was the exchange between B and his teacher (who was v amused) during lunch yesterday.

B: I love you very much.
Tr: Yes, B. I love you too.
B: I love you SO much.
Tr: Yes B. I love you very much too. But you will still need to eat your lunch.

Lol. He has a way with words. A lawyer in the making?

The Whole White World

Me: when you get upset with one person, u dun need to be angry with the whole wide world, ok?

K (looking out of the window at the dark night sky): It's now the whole black world, right?

Me: Lol. It's the whole wide world, not whole white world!

The rainy season

It has been raining everyday. And when we say 'rain', it actually means a downpour. Mostly, it rains in the afternoons and has been a nightmare in terms of laundry.

But the kids enjoy the weather cos it's cool for them when they sleep and we get to look for snails after the rain. They also get to jump in puddles of rainwater.

We had dinner at the club on Saturday. It had rained so heavily the pool side cafeteria was wet from the rain. The chairs were slightly damp and there were puddles everywhere, much to the delight of the two of them. Clad in gum boots, it was just splish splash splosh all the way till the food arrived.

Yesterday, on our way home in the car, it started drizzling.

K (exclaims loudly): Wah Lao Eh!! Raining already.

P and I stared at one another, speechless. Ok, time to watch our own exclamations.

Maisy obsession

B does not like to watch new shows. He doesn't like stories where someone is being hurt or threatened. It upsets him. So he prefers to stick to the simpler story lines, like that of Humf, Peppa Pig and Maisy. Recently, he's been asking to watch Maisy over and over.

This is K humoring me by singing the theme song.

This is B on his own accord with the video.

One last look

I was clearing some of K's old dresses. Most of them were hand-me-downs. There was one that I really liked, which I bought. T'was a pity to have to put it into a pass-it-on-to-someone bag. I had to put it on a small child to admire it once again. He was not too pleased.

"No wan!"

Jumping in protest.

Whines.

B's walking frame

He used P's bicycle stand as a walking frame as he'd seen our neighbor do on several occasions.

"Look mummy! Like uncle," he said gleefully.

Kim says

After an hour of dinner, with much exasperation,

I said to K: Look at your mouth! It's not moving! Chew. And. Swallow.

K: I cannot look at my mouth.

And I see her looking down, straining to see below her nose.

Growl.

I have a three-year old back seat driver! As I inched forward while parking, she went, "Some more, some more. OK, enough. Stop."

Kim prays

At dinner, K said, "Never say grace yet." So we did.

Then she said, "Father God, pray for good health for papa, mama and Ben. Pray for Chyna and Dopey, pray for good polarship."

Polarship = fellowship

This is the wallpaper on P's laptop. K, as usual, finding some reason to stall and not go to bed, looked on with interest. I think she noticed it again because P has recently cleared his laptop and it now has much fewer icons.

She asked whose hands they were. P told her that they were hers and mine when she was just a day old.

She thought for a while and asked, "Kimberley got no thumb?"

Kim says

As K sat on her throne this evening, she said to me, "So hot." I replied, "Yes, I'm feeling hot too." Then she said, "I need the fan, mama." P is so proud of her language skills.

P worked late today. B's room was infested with little bugs. They were crawling all over the wall where his changing station and cot are. Yikes. So I cleared out some of the stuff and wiped out as many as I could (in between feeding and playing with the girl) and waited for P to come home to exterminate the rest of them. Meanwhile, I had B sleep in the bassinet in our room. K was thrilled to have easy access to her baby brother. She patted him, played with his teddy bear and sang to him. In the middle of singing Twinkle twinkle little star, the phone rang. Within seconds, she answered it. Without hearing who the other person was, she said, "Hello papa." P was pleasantly surprised. After their exchange of hellos and how are yous, she said, "I singing Twinkle twinkle to B leh. You sturb me." P was tickled to bits after I explained that she meant that he was disturbing her singing.

Last night, K went up to P and voluntarily said, "I love you, papa." Aww...It melted his heart.

This is Chyna. When she was much fluffier. Our little dog as we often fondly call her.

This is the country China.

I guess we never considered the complexities of it all for our children when we decided to name our dog Chyna.

We were watching YOG with K last night during dinner. Swimming was featured and China was doing rather well. I tried to tell her that aside from the name of her dog, China was also the name of a country, a big country at that.

Me: China is a place. Just like Singapore. Singapore is country. China is also a country. But it is far far away. It is a big country.
K: (Smiling) Big crunchy ah?

Conversations with K

Aunty in lift
We were on our way to my parents' place for dinner on Tuesday. As we entered the lift, another lady came in. K suddenly said, "Aunty got ........." I couldn't really make out what she said so I asked her to repeat herself. Again, she muttered something which I didn't understand. Finally, the lady stepped out of the lift and I asked her again. She said, "Aunty got big.... (she used her hand to cover the bottom part of her face)...mouth!"

Oh dear. I was both shocked and amused at the same time. It is time to teach K that it could possibly be miscontrued as being rude. Boy was I thankful that I only asked the second time when the lady had left.

Neighbour's rabbit
We would usually walk by this particular unit when we make our way to our car in the carpark. Tue was no exception. After we got out of the lift, we walked by this same household and realised that there was a cage in there. K immediately took an interest and wanted to see what was in it. It was a rabbit but I told her it was very rude to be looking into someone else's house so we hurried along.

When in the car with my mum, she suddenly said, "Rabbit in cage." My mum asked her where. She replied, "Neighbour." My mum understanding that she had seen a rabbit in a cage at a neighbour's house asked her if she had played with it. She replied emphatically, "No...it is not a toy!"

Mum didn't know whether to laugh or be offended with the tone.

Concessions for mummy
K has recently started playing with her doll Gracie again. She would make me sit with her for up to an hour, just feeding Gracie, burping her and patting her to sleep. I got bored after sometime so when she asked me to feed Gracie with the milk bottle, I would pretend to drink it for myself instead. This usually provokes a reaction, "No Mummy!!!! Not for you! For Gracie ok?"

Of course, being rather thick I would stare blankly at her and repeat the same action when again, requested to feed the doll. She would tell me once again most exasperated that it wasn't meant for me. Sometimes, just to see what she would do, I would also pretend to gobble down the whole bottle, to which she would shout in horror, "No eating mummy! It is just a toy!" Haha.

Other times, looking slightly hurt and sad, I would tell her that I was hungry too. And almost as if she had given up on me, she would say, "Just a little bit, ok? Then it's Gracie's turn."

I love playing with her and watching her react to silly things I do.
