This blog has come about all because of a hat. Yes, a hat. Well, Peen's hat, to be precise. The one he had from when he was in NS.
About two weeks ago, it went missing and he was rather miserable about it since it had been with him for so long. I was beginning to think that there is a black hole in our flat as we had some items that have just disappeared and could not be found. Amazingly, two of the four items (Kimmy's tee shirt that I love and pendant) appeared after months of searching. So Peen was hoping also to find his beloved hat soon.
I received a call from Peen yesterday and he was at Beach Road. No prize for guessing why he was there. For those not from S'pore, Beach Road is where all the guys buy their army stuff and he had gone there to get a replacement hat. Well, he was finally appeased with the replacement but I suspect still a little sad about the loss.
Today while clearing all the recycle trash in the storeroom, Lo and Behold! He found the missing hat. Here is the hat - found once again!
And this is the replacement hat from Beach Road which has of course quickly lost its status with the owner. It is now mine.
In view of the two hats, I decided I had to make it a family thingy to be wearing camouflage hats so this one came about.
I didn't just make the hat of course. I had already completed a dress in the same fabric. I tried to make a dress following this one (pink) which Kim got as a gift. It's an A-line pinafore I think. But it works as a dress here in hot and humid Singapore. I got to sew buttons and buttonholes with the machine for the first time. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. But sewing the V in the front proved to be a huge challenge. In the end, I sewed a U shaped instead. I will have to attempt it again, with the V this time.
This is Kim is the dress and hat. The dress is rather big on her....as usual. Hmmm. The hat just reminds me of Strawberry Shortcake. It's kinda huge on top. Guess she will grow into both items?

Hurrah! Me first to comment - beat you to it, Peen! Very cool ensemble! I loved reading the story of the hat, and LOVE that last photo especially. Kim is very cute! But that's beside the point - the hat looks wonderful! I am planning to sew hats for summer for the girls so I am now inspired and even more impatient for winter to end! And what a hip dress- and what a fun thing for the entire family to be decked out in camouflage - quick post pictures of you and Peen in "No.4" dresses!
