What Kimmy does these days

I haven't blogged about Kim in a while. Here are some videos that I took of her just today.

I took out her masak masak set which she got for her birthday - the last of her presents to be taken out for her to play with. She has been practising cutting wooden bread in school with a wooden knife so I thought colourful vegetables would be more interesting and fun for her. She has proven that she can multitask, well sort of. She can watch TV and fry a fish.

I try to bring her downstairs so she can look at nature, birds (chase), insects (crawl after an ant) and walk around the neighbourhood (watch a little girl pee into a drain!!! what were the parents thinking?!).

Today, I made her carry her own water bottle (in a plastic bag so that it's easier for her tiny hands) and she made sure we never left it behind. I would put it down on the floor while we played at a section of the playground. Whenever we were done, she would walk to the plastic bag and pick it up. She's turning out to be a Type A person! Haha.

Peen thinks she looks very aunty.

She really enjoys her bath. Except for the bits when we need to rinse the shampoo out of her hair. I rotate her squirties when she gets bored with them. She likes it when we squirt water at her (not her face of course). She has started to drink from them tho'. And thinks it's very funny too.

Well, we do also think it's really funny. Does that make us bad parents? That we let our daughter drink soapy water? Oops. Well, Peen only lets her drink it before soaping her and before rinsing out the shampoo in her hair....I think. So I guess it's relatively soapless/clean still? Oh, except for if she disposes of any body fluid without our knowledge. Yikes.

The Army Hat

This blog has come about all because of a hat. Yes, a hat. Well, Peen's hat, to be precise. The one he had from when he was in NS.

About two weeks ago, it went missing and he was rather miserable about it since it had been with him for so long. I was beginning to think that there is a black hole in our flat as we had some items that have just disappeared and could not be found. Amazingly, two of the four items (Kimmy's tee shirt that I love and pendant) appeared after months of searching. So Peen was hoping also to find his beloved hat soon.

I received a call from Peen yesterday and he was at Beach Road. No prize for guessing why he was there. For those not from S'pore, Beach Road is where all the guys buy their army stuff and he had gone there to get a replacement hat. Well, he was finally appeased with the replacement but I suspect still a little sad about the loss.

Today while clearing all the recycle trash in the storeroom, Lo and Behold! He found the missing hat. Here is the hat - found once again!

And this is the replacement hat from Beach Road which has of course quickly lost its status with the owner. It is now mine.

In view of the two hats, I decided I had to make it a family thingy to be wearing camouflage hats so this one came about.

I didn't just make the hat of course. I had already completed a dress in the same fabric. I tried to make a dress following this one (pink) which Kim got as a gift. It's an A-line pinafore I think. But it works as a dress here in hot and humid Singapore. I got to sew buttons and buttonholes with the machine for the first time. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. But sewing the V in the front proved to be a huge challenge. In the end, I sewed a U shaped instead. I will have to attempt it again, with the V this time.

This is Kim is the dress and hat. The dress is rather big on her....as usual. Hmmm. The hat just reminds me of Strawberry Shortcake. It's kinda huge on top. Guess she will grow into both items?
