Peasant blouse and simple dress

I have been busy with Christmas pressies - wrapping and sewing bags to contain them. So I haven't done much sewing of clothes. Wonder why since we didn't get that many pressies this year.

I finally had some time yesterday and I sewed two items. One blouse in the day and a simple dress in the night.

For the blouse, I followed this tutorial. Bought the fabric for the blouse from People's Park. Managed also to get some beads. The print on the fabric makes Kimmy look more mature. Somehow the neckline is a little high up. Hmmm...Do I need to curve it more before I do the casing for the elastic?

As for the dress, it looks similar to the first spaghetti strapped dress I made, probably cos it's from the same fabric and both have spaghetti straps. But this one uses casing for the bias tape which acts as the straps. And because the strap is adjustable, it is supposed to grow with the wearer. I also had to use bias tape for the arm hole. I'm trying out different patterns that allow me to try out new things along the way.

Speaking of Kimmy, she has become more water confident of late and would jump into the water from a seated position at the side of the pool. She also walks in the pool between the ledge and me. Although she sometimes loses her balance and finds her face partially in the water, she just sputters and then continues her merry way without making much of a fuss. We are so glad she is now very happy to be in the pool. It wasn't so long ago that she would fret about being at the pool and being changed into her swimwear. And then fret some more when we dip her in the water.

Today, she enjoyed herself at her first trip to Anchorvale Swimming Complex so much, despite the fact that the water was cold. We didn't even realise that her lips had turned purple. Oops. Tsk tsk. These parents need to be more careful.

Oh yes, she also signed "cat" today. :) She can now say "bye bye" when she waves. She can sign "shoes". Our little girl is growing up. It is fascinating to see her do something new every few days.

Hallo V! Merry Christmas! Sorry so quiet of late. Busy with Christmas and all. We spent Christmas Day at D's aunt's ranch out in the prairie lands of MN. No internet. Argh! How can no internet in this day and age? Anyway, so just got back to D's parents' house where got internet, thankfully. The blouse and dress look great! The blouse pattern from justtutes is like that - the neckline is very high. I couldn't figure out her pattern and why it looked the way it looked based on the mental picture in my head of what a peasant blouse should look like. So I didn't use it in the end and drafted my own. So no, you didn't do anything wrong. How did the recipients of your Christmas presents (crayon roll etc) like their gifts? E hasn't seen the dressup box yet - it's under the tree at home waiting for us to come home.

Drats, this shouldn't be in the comments - I should have sent this as an email instead. Sorry.
