B says

We are teaching him his name. I realized that when he goes to school, he would probably not have a clue what his Mandarin speaking teacher is saying. I am desperately trying to start to teach him some, starting with his name.

And I'm waiting for him to say this on his own accord. For now, he would respond when we say that we love him.

LASIK-ed Day 2

It's the second day. Eyes are not so dry and uncomfortable but vision is still not 100% but I can already see P across the room and his face isn't just an oval with smudged facial features! Yay! But the after-care procedure is a bit of a pain but all worth it considering the long-term benefits. Can't wait for the vision to improve.

LASIK-ed

I finally gathered up my courage to go for LASIK.

Over the decade, I've witnessed one by one of my friends being set free. I blatantly drooled over their state of specs-lessness and had deep admiration for their courage. I dreamt of the day when I'd be awoken in the middle of the night by the children and wouldn't need to fumble and feel my way around blindly for my specs. Or to awake and could see the world clearly.

When I got P's blessings to go do it, everything was set in motion very quickly. From the first assessment (Mon) to the day of the procedure (Thu). I was concerned about the logistics of the hospital visits with B in tow. Thank God P was able to come along on Thu for the procedure. He and B watched the procedure through a glass panel.

The right eye went ok but during the pressure bit where a suction disc holds onto the eye to keep it still for the flap to be cut, it was rather uncomfortable for the second eye. It was literally a 10min procedure so that went by quite quickly enough.

The few days before the procedure, I wasn't really feeling too nervous or anything but I decided to make something for K and B "just in case" anything went wrong.

I was at Spotlight and I saw these quilt kits! I couldn't resist. I mean I was never into making quilts nor was I ever inclined to make one but the kits were really cute.

See? This one was for K. I was too excited to make the second one that I forgot to take a before pic.

Here are the completed quilts.

Well, these are completed now and I feel almost ready to make a larger quilt! Almost. Maybe when I have completed the long list of to sews.

Week of parks

We have been visiting parks this week.

On Tuesday, I brought B to Jacob Ballas Children's Garden to check the place out. The tree house was great. There were two slides of varying heights and B loved them.

He sat on my lap each time and would keep asking for more. That was the first place we went to and played until a troupe of PCF preschoolers came by. No pics of him coming down the slide. Pity.

Next we went to the suspension bridge. It was rather fun for B who has never experienced anything like it before. It rocked quite a bit when I got on. Though he was a little apprehensive at first, he did walk half the bridge on his own.

There is a little pond in this garden and there was ample variety pond life there - fish, plants and insects.

Here is B checking out his own reflection in one of the trough-like thingys.

Today, we went to Bishan park. I was researching parks suitable for B and K. At the NParks website, here was the map I found of Bishan Park. Was very excited that there was a water playground. Of course, when I arrived I found that it was still under construction. I must have missed that bit of info somehow. And rechecking the site, I am still missing it. :s

It took about 40mins of to and fro from one section to another before we unloaded for the final time to bring B to a playground. At this point, any playground would do.

Here is the playground without the usual slides. But he used the domes as slides. Are they meant to be?

And I finally found a bucket swing! Since K's time I have been searching for one!

A sleek/modern design of a rocking horse thingy.

He found some stones and would lean out of this hole and throw them onto the floor. Then he'd run around the low wall to the other side of the hole to pick it up and then repeat it again.

Going to 公公 and 嬷嬷's house

Driving over to my parents' place, K said, "My heart is happy because we are going to 公公 and 嬷嬷's house."

Rainforest Kidzworld

Brought B to the zoo today. We targeted Kidzworld to bring him to the water play area.

When he saw the vast amount of water spraying everywhere, he was quite reluctant to enter the water area. After much persuasion, he finally did. Only around the water's edge.

Then he kept running back to the pram to take his shoes out, wanting to leave the area. Funny boy.

When I brought him back to the water, he would continue to play for a while more.

The highlight of the morning was leaving his footprints everywhere!
